Audition Requirements

The Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra is an honors ensemble for dedicated and gifted student musicians from Southwest Michigan.  You can hear us in a recent performance here.  We play challenging repertoire in three regular concerts each season, from September to early May, with weekly rehearsals on Sunday afternoons, from 1:30-4:30. Dress Rehearsals usually are on Thursday evenings before performances. Depending on facility availability, sometimes we have to schedule Friday evening Dress Rehearsals. Our first rehearsals of the season take place at an overnight camp just outside of Kalamazoo, which we call Tune-up Camp; in the fall of 2020, this will happen on September 12-13.

Interested students who have a compelling scheduling conflict with our audition date may request an alternate date, which will be slightly earlier than our scheduled date. All KJSO auditions for the 2020-2021 season will be completed by the end of the June audition date.

Below, please find guidelines about what to expect at an audition.
